Cats were highly revered in ancient Egypt, with many being considered sacred and even worshipped as deities. One fascinating aspect of ancient Egyptian culture is their approach to feeding and caring for cats. Cats were not just seen as beloved pets, but as valuable members of the household. As such, they were fed a special diet that was quite different from what we typically feed our feline friends today. In ancient Egypt, cats were often fed a diet consisting of fish, birds, and even grains. Fish was a major component of their diet, as it provided essential nutrients and proteins necessary for their health and vitality. Birds were also a common source of food for cats, reflecting the predatory nature of these majestic creatures. Additionally, grains such as barley and wheat were sometimes included in their meals to provide a well-rounded diet. The relationship between cats and their owners in ancient Egypt was one of mutual respect and admiration. Cats were valued for their hunting abilities, keeping homes free from pests such as mice and rats. In return, they were cared for, fed well, and even mummified upon their death as a sign of reverence. Nowadays, the way we approach feeding our cats has evolved significantly. Commercial cat food has become the norm, offering a convenient and nutritionally balanced option for our beloved pets.
